According to a recent CTV Consumer Alert segment, a recently released job report stated that there will be a need for about 250,000 skilled trade workers to enter the workforce in the next 8 years. The main reason for this need is the fact that many skilled workers are retiring in the near future while many young people are not choosing the trades as a career. There is an estimate that about 20% of the skilled trades workforce will retire within the next 5 to 10 years.

CTV's Pat Foran lists these jobs as the ones need most:
- Welders
- Carpenters
- Construction Estimators
- Boilermakers
- Millwrights and Industrial Mechanics
- Crane Operators
- Electricians
- Ironworkers
- Plumbers
- Sheet Metal Workers
- Steamfitters and Pipefitters
